The story of Every Child in School begins with a reality that cannot be ignored: millions of children in Nigeria are still out of school. Despite being Africa’s most populous nation, access to education remains a pressing challenge. Poverty, lack of infrastructure, and social barriers continue to keep many children away from the classroom, limiting their chances for a brighter future.
It was within this context that the idea for the project emerged. Volunteers and local partners working with AIESEC came together, united by a shared conviction that education should not be a privilege for a few but a right for every child. At the Kids and Teens Resource Centre, young people from different parts of the world witnessed firsthand the struggles of children who wanted to learn but lacked the opportunity. What stood out was not only the need but also the potential the eagerness of children to learn if only they were given the chance.
Every Child in School was created to respond to this need. It is built on collaboration Nigerians and international volunteers working side by side, pooling their ideas, energy, and resources to make education more accessible. The project is a reminder that when people come together across borders with a shared vision, change becomes possible.
At its core, the mission is simple yet powerful: to ensure that every child has the opportunity to return to school and to stay there. It is a step toward building a future where education lays the foundation for equality, progress, and hope.
The Every Child in School project continues to make progress in its mission of supporting access to education in Ondo State. While the project was designed to provide direct support to 200 students across primary, secondary, and tertiary levels, its activities have reached a much wider number of beneficiaries.
200 students have received uniforms, books, and learning materials.
Among these, 2 children had never attended school before and are now enrolled, marking a significant step in addressing out-of-school rates.
The project initially planned for 800 students to attend six weeks of holiday coaching classes. However, attendance surpassed this number, as demand from students and parents exceeded expectations. Final figures are being confirmed, but the increase demonstrates both strong community interest and the importance of supplementary education programs.
Subjects taught included English, Mathematics, Economics, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry, helping students strengthen their knowledge ahead of the school year.
The original target for the ICT summit was 2,000 students, but final attendance stood at approximately 1,000 students. This reduction was largely due to the increased cost of transportation since the time of the original proposal. Rising prices limited participation from some schools outside immediate host communities, but those who attended gained essential digital literacy exposure.
200 teachers and school governing members have participated in training sessions focused on classroom methodologies and modern teaching practices.
25 classrooms have been equipped with new white magnetic boards and markers, improving teaching conditions.
The initiative has impacted schools and families across Odigbo, Akure South, Akure North, Idanre, and Ifedore LGAs.
